Awards $1,901 in Investors Group Kickstart! Mini-Grants

The Youth Advisory Committee
(YAC) of The Community Foundation of Greater Kingston is
pleased to announce this year's recipients of the YAC Investors
Group Kickstart! Mini-Grants program. This program, an innovative
partnership with the Limestone Learning Foundation and Algonquin
& Lakeshore District Catholic Education Foundation,
awards grants of less than $300 to elementary school classes
in the Limestone District School Board and Algonquin &
Lakeshore District Catholic School Board for small community
projects.

Projects selected demonstrate
creative thinking, and involve the community. The aim of
the program is to educate elementary school students about
community, legacy, charity and philanthropy. This year,
11 applications were recieved from around the Greater Kingston
area.
The following projects have
been selected for a 2005 YAC Investors Group Kickstart!
Mini-Grant:
Elginburg District Public
School:
Flying Wonders - Enhancement of butterfly garden.
Holy Family Catholic School:
The Magical Land of Oz - Funding for costumes and production
of a school play.
St. James Major Catholic School:
Major Tree Project - Students will plant trees on school
& church grounds.
John XXIII Catholic School:
Serenity Place - A garden sanctuary at the front of the
school.
Odessa Public School:
A tree in memory of Constable Chris Garrett - The students
will plant a maple tree in the peace garden.
Storrington Public School:
School Beautification Project - A flower bed in front of
new sign.
Yarker Family Public School:
A Beautiful Sign Deserves a Beautiful Garden - A garden
for the front yard of the school.

Kickstart! Mini-Grant Money Awarded: $1901.00
YAC wishes to thank Investors
Group Kingston for their generous support of this worthwhile
grantmaking program, and to our community partners Limestone
Learning Foundation and Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic
Education Foundation.
The Youth Advisory Committee
(YAC) is a youth philanthropy initiative of The Community
Foundation of Greater Kingston. YAC is a group of young
people aged 14 - 22 from the Kingston area who strive to
make their community a better place through grantmaking,
community leadership, and fund development.
The Community Foundation of
Greater Kingston helps charities accomplish their good work
by making financial grants. Donations are pooled in a permanent
endowment fund, and interest income earned is used to make
grants.
