The Greater Kingston area
is blessed with an abundance of unique, beautiful ecosystems
- the Thousand Islands, Lake Ontario, the Land O' Lakes
region, and hundreds of creeks, lakes, and forests. Recognizing
the intrinsic value of the environment for the quality
of life in our community, The Community Foundation of
Greater Kingston supports environmental groups by:
- facilitating dialogue
and networking
- providing resources
- organizing workshops and
events
- effective grantmaking
We
gratefully acknowledge the J.W.
McConnell Family Foundation for
their financial support of the Environmental Initiatives
in 2005/2006.

GreenUP! is a chance for the public to explore practical, earth-friendly ideas for home, garden, and
lifestyle. Topics range from alternative energy and backyard projects to wildlife habitat preservation
campaigns. Environmental companies, government agencies, non-profit organizations and volunteer
groups will engage visitors with interactive displays. Visitors will also be able to experience ‘green’
initiatives in action with tours of the Living Wall (a wall made up of plants that function to clean the air
in a building) and The Tea Room (a café at Queen’s that has incorporated many sustainable aspects
in their operations). Children's activities, including a mini bike-rodeo by Cycle Kingston, and delicious
food from the Tea Room will contribute to the festive spirit!
In its first two years, GreenUP! has brought over 2,000 people of all age groups together to learn
simple ways to green their lives. As in previous years, this year’s festival will feature an attractive mix
of great exhibitors, inspiring speakers, hands-on workshops and demonstrations, children’s activities,
live entertainment and much more!
For more information about GreenUP! 2008, please visit the Festival website at www.greenupfestival.ca or contact the Community Foundation at 613.546.9696. See you at GreenUP! 2008.

June 5 Spotlight Tour of Environmental Projects
June 5, 2006 - 8:45am - 2pm, starts and ends at the Belle Park golf course parking lot
|
In order to familiarize more people with our Environmental Initiatives, we'll do a Spotlight Tour of 4 environmental projects we've supported.
A constructed wetland for treating landfill leachate; EnergyHouse, a showcase facility of renewable energy technologies; a nursery for native plants at Lemoine Point; and
a grassland preserve on Amherst Island that provides breeding habitat for Wilson's Pharalope and Purple Martins.
At each stop, a project representative will explain the project. If you'd like to come along, please send email to
enviro@cfgk.org by Sunday June 4 (so that we can order enough lunch).

In collaboration with over
ten environmental groups, the Community Foundation is organizing an environmental fair with interactive displays,
demonstrations, and workshops on nature, renewable energy, and earth-friendly living. There will be booths by businesses,
non-profit organizations and volunteer groups, as well as entertainment and children's activites.
If you would like to sponsor the event, would like a booth, or have ideas for
workshops, demonstrations, or entertainment, please email enviro@cfgk.org or call 546-9696 (Vera). Visit the festival webpage at www.greenupfestival.ca
