This innovative program is a partnership with the Limestone Learning Foundation and the Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic Education Foundation. The YAC Kickstart! Mini-Grants program encourages elementary school classes to apply for funding up to $400 to support small community projects, thereby teaching them about community, philanthropy and legacy.

Guidelines and Criteria for Grant Applicants

Mission Statement of The Community Foundation of Greater Kingston:
We encourage and assist donors to establish endowments whose earnings we grant to enhance the quality of life in our community.

Grants may be awarded to local projects that have a direct impact on the people of our community or that have an indirect impact by increasing the capacity of organizations to initiate and sustain local projects.

The Community Foundation's Youth Advisory Committee makes grants in the following fields from this fund: Youth.

Geographic Area

The geographic area covered by the grantmaking of the Foundation's Youth Advisory Committee for the YAC Kickstart! Mini-Grants program is the same as the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board and the Limestone District School Board.

Criteria for Grant Recipients

1.
An applicant must be a school of either the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board or the Limestone District School Board. The Principal or Vice-Principal of the applicant school must sign the application form.
2.
Projects may involve one or more classes and should demonstrate innovation as well as positive benefits for the community.
3.
Projects must have a well-defined purpose and take place before the end of the following calendar year.
4.
Grants may be awarded for the start-up of a long-term project if there is a realistic plan for ongoing evaluation and for long-term viability.

Successful projects will be characterized by many of the following traits:
- They build on existing community strengths and assets.
- They respond to real and clearly identified local needs or provide real enrichment to the community.
- They use resources efficiently and effectively.
- They involve meaningful partnerships.
- They strive for a significant and/or lasting impact.
- They benefit a wide audience.
- They show innovation, creativity, proactive thinking, and a degree of risk.

Grants will not be given:
- To cover deficits or retire debts.
- To provide endowment funds.
- To support the operating expenses of established organizations or programs (including predictable replacement of office equipment).
- For sectarian, religious, or political purposes.
- To respond to annual fund drives for sustaining support.
Grants will not normally be given:
- To contribute to major renovation or capital construction costs.
- To individuals (except in exceptional cases and where sponsored by a registered charity).
- To provide money for fundraising activities.

Organizations receiving major government funding for their operations must explain clearly why the funding requested from the Foundation is not available from government sources.

Application Process

1.
Check this website and/or news through your school board for a Call for Grant Applications.
2.
Determine if your organization/project meets the required eligibility criteria noted above.
3.
Download and complete the Grant Application Form, available below or on your school board's website.
4.
Follow the instructions on the application form and mail it to:

Evaluation

If you are awarded a grant, you will be asked to sign a Grant Agreement Form outlining the Terms and Conditions of the award.

Upon completion of your project, you are required to complete a Final Report to be submitted to the Community Foundation. A follow-up visit by our Grant Selection Team may also be required. The Final Report is intended to help you evaluate the initiative and to help us evaluate the effectiveness of our grants on enhancing and strengthening the quality of life in our community.

Deadline

The Community Foundation is not currently accepting applications for funding from this Fund.
